Waterproof - Keeping down from getting wet is critical for maintaining its insulating properties. The outer shell has a hydrophilic water resistant coating to stop water coming into contact with the down, reaching up to 5,000mmH2O Waterproofness and 3,000g/m²/24 hrs Breathability to avoid overheating. As an added benefit, this speeds up the drying process during laundering
DWR - In addition, a Durable Water Repellent coating is added to the outer side to shake-off as much rain and snow as possible. It passes the ISO 22958:2021 Rain Test.
Insulation/Fill
Content - 80% Down / 20% Feather
Ethical - By using R.D.S Certified down, we ensure our down is only collected from ducks being raised for their meat with the down being a by-product. Outdated practices such as live plucking and force-feeding are now rare, yet these are still checked by R.D.S at farm-point to ensure only appropriate farming practices are undertaken.
While geese and duck farming will continue, if the apparel & bedding industry ceased to use down & feathers, it would likely be a journey to landfill. However, the R.D.S initiative is to have the down & feathers cleaned & sanitized to be re-purposed into outerwear and bedding, giving a second life to this unique by-product.
Sustainable - Down is a sustainable, eco-friendly material that’s naturally occurring and compostable. Along with being a by-product of the food industry, all components from down are biodegradable.
Down and feathers have the lowest carbon footprint of any other fill material, both natural and synthetic. In contrast, synthetic fills have a huge carbon footprint and synthetics never go away.
Synthetic, petroleum-derived insulations are made with the use of finite fossil fuel petroleum. These insulations don't have the longevity of down, as their fibers are heat sensitive and lose their loft-ability over time.
Warmth - Down provides up to three times the warmth when compared to synthetics. Each ounce of high-quality down has around 2 million fluffy filaments that overlap to form a protective layer of still-air that keeps warmth in and cold out.
Breathability - Down has a natural ability to breathe and wick away body moisture and perspiration, constantly keeping you dry and warm.
Hypo-Allergenic - Our down goes through a rigorous cleaning process to meet industry standards for hypoallergenic quality. It’s thoroughly cleaned of organic matter to alleviate both odours and allergens.
Longevity - When cared for and stored properly, a quality down garment can last for generations. Down‘s natural durability and resilience ensures that it can be washed, dried, and easily re-lofted to rebound to its original form.
Machine Washable - Down garments can be washed and tumble dried. Ensure to follow the care instructions.
Care Instructions
Down Care Instructions
For an initial clean, wipe any soiling or dirty marks with a damp cloth or MONTISSIER Puffer Buffer and follow the drying instructions below. However, when thorough cleaning is required please follow these instructions:
Washing
- Unzip the hood from the jacket and remove any faux fur trim
- Handwash or gentle machine wash, ensuring to only use a front loader washing machine
- Only use down liquid soap, see our Down Care section for NIKWAX DOWN WASH DIRECT, and ensure any powdered detergent residue is cleaned out from the compartment
- Soak for up to 60 minutes
- Do not use fabric softener
- Do not bleach, soak, or rub
- Gently squeeze out excess water and do not wring or shake the garment while wet in order to protect the down clusters
Drying
- Tumble dry on low heat, adding two x DOWN LAUNDRY BALLS (see our DOWN CARE section) to avoid clumps forming and to thoroughly redistribute the down
- Check-in on the drying process and softly toss to redistribute down and locate any remaining damp areas
- Repeat the drying procedure until completely dry which will ensure all down has been separated and re-lofted
- Do not store when wet
- Hang when not in use
- If a front loader machine or tumble drier are not available, we recommend professional cleaning
